Thank you for considering The Stonehaven School! We welcome you to get to know us by exploring our website, reading more about classical education, and visiting our campus. Our program is based solidly upon the Bible and implemented by dedicated Christian teachers and staff members. We invite you to carefully examine the service we offer families in the Stonehaven community. We would love to have a conversation, answer your questions, and tell you more about our school. Your children are your greatest responsibility, and their education is worthy of such an investment of time and effort.

The Application Process

Learn & Explore

It is essential that parents know and understand our Christ-centered, classical mission. Before applying, prospective families are encouraged to explore our website, read various books and research other online resources to learn more about classical Christian education.

Attend Admissions Event

The best way to learn about our school is by coming to the school for a visit. Attend one of our preview days or schedule a tour. Upper School (rising 7-12th) students have the opportunity to shadow as part of the discovery process.

Complete Application

We use an online application program called Alma Start. The online application opens in the fall each year for applications to the following school year. We require Teacher Recommendation forms, a Pastor Recommendation Form, and transcripts from previous schools.

Testing & Shadow Day

Each prospective student must attend Stonehaven for either a play day (Kindergarten) or a shadow day (1st-12th grade). Lower School (K-6) parents will be contacted to schedule a shadow day after completion of an application. Upper School (7-12) students have the opportunity to shadow as part of the discovery process, or after applying.

Family Interview

In the family interview, Stonehaven’s mission and vision will be discussed and the family will have a chance to ask any questions they have before making a commitment to our school. Students entering grades 3 and above are required to attend, and others are welcome.

Decision

Stonehaven will notify families of the school's decision and give a short period for each family to respond to the school with their enrollment commitment.

Admissions Criteria

Stonehaven is a covenant school. At least one parent must be a member of a local church, as demonstrated by a Pastor Recommendation. At least one parent must affirm their agreement with the Statement of Faith and the Sanctity of Life, Marriage, Gender, and Sexuality Statement.
The parents must be committed to cooperating with the policies of the school board. This is most important in the areas of discipline and schoolwork.
Parents must understand the school's commitment to parental responsibility for their child's education. Stonehaven exists to assist parents in the godly training of their children, not to take over responsibility for the education of their children. Stonehaven requires parents to be actively engaged and involved in the education of their children.
A child must reach the age of five (5) by August 1st of the year in which he enters Kindergarten at Stonehaven. All children applying for admission to Kindergarten must demonstrate academic and developmental readiness.
Generally, a child who has not completed Kindergarten at Stonehaven must reach the age of six (6) years by August 1st of the year in which he enters first grade at Stonehaven.
Children entering subsequent grades will be admitted to a grade based on having successfully completed the previous grade at home or at another school and having performed satisfactorily on an Admissions Assessment for the grade to which they are applying.
Lower School applicants will be assessed in reading, writing, and math to determine their academic readiness for the program at Stonehaven. Upper School applicants will be assessed with standardized test scores, an essay submission, and a math placement test. Assessment results, prior records, and teacher recommendations will be used to determine the suitability of the Stonehaven program for the student's needs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the application process take?

Start to finish, the process usually takes about 2 weeks. However, the Family Interview is not scheduled until all recommendations, records, and transcripts have been received and reviewed.

I'm having an issue with Alma Start. Who do I contact?

Technical issues can be such a pain! Email admissions@stonehavenschool.org and we will work with Alma support to help you.

I am applying more than one child. Do I need to start a separate application for each child?

Yes. However, there are several questions that you will only need to answer once, and you will have the option to enter "N/A" in subsequent questions.

How can I prepare my child for testing?

Tell your child that we look forward to working with him or her and discovering what they’ve been learning! We are not looking for perfection, so they do not need to be nervous. We would like for them to do their best.

When do I need to begin an application for Indexed Tuition?

The Indexed Tuition process begins after admissions acceptance is offered. Indexed Tuition applications are processed by FACTS, and tax documents will be required. Families who intend to apply for Indexed Tuition should begin preparing by completing taxes as early as possible.
