Brett Edwards

Head of School

Brett's journey at Stonehaven began in 2008 as a math and science teacher and he transitioned to his current role as Head of School in 2012. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Mr. Edwards teaches Upper School mathematics. He received a B.S. in Management from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He has been a teacher and administrator in Christian education since 2001. He is passionate about the vision of Stonehaven's Christ-centered classical education and its goal to train students to love God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength. He lives in Marietta with his wife Katie and their four children; Lydia, Calvin, Ruby, and Henry. He attends Christ the King Anglican, where he serves as an usher. Brett finds great joy spending time with his family and playing Settlers of Catan with friends. In search of rest and reflection, he will look for a great book or step outside to tend his fledgling garden.

Thomas Carrenard

Associate Head of School

Thomas joined Stonehaven (formerly Atlanta Classical Christian Academy) as the father of two (now-adult) children –Philip and James– in the fall of 2005. In the providence of God, he was called to serve as the school’s second headmaster in the spring of 2007 and did so with great joy for three wonderful years. Thomas has spent over 25 years helping public school districts in New York and Georgia address various barriers to students’ learning in his role as a school social worker. He left his most recent position with Clayton County Public Schools to devote the next stage of his life pursuing the fulfillment of God’s great work through classical Christian education at Stonehaven. Thomas has a strong commitment to the local church and has served in several pastoral roles in culturally diverse contexts, including two years as a campus minister at Dartmouth College. He holds a B.A. in International Studies from the College of Staten Island, a Master of Social Work from Fordham University, and is close to completing a Master of Arts in Theological Studies at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. Thomas and his wife of 27 years, Genevieve, presently reside in Hampton, together with their youngest son, Nathan. The Carrenard family currently worships at Christ Church South Metro in Tyrone. Some of Thomas’ great pleasures include: reading, listening to music, mowing the lawn (yes!), attempting soccer trick shots with Nathan, and passionately cheering his favorite sports teams (The NY Knicks and the Brazilian National Team)

Kyle Hughes

Lower School Principal

Dr. Kyle Hughes joined The Stonehaven School as its inaugural Lower School Principal in 2022. Kyle holds a B.S.F.S. from Georgetown University, a Th.M. from Dallas Theological Seminary, and a Ph.D. in New Testament and Early Christianity from Radboud University Nijmegen (Netherlands). He is passionate about empowering teachers, partnering with families, and encouraging students to glorify God by cultivating goodness, truth, and beauty. A veteran educator and accomplished scholar, Kyle is the author of three books, including Teaching for Spiritual Formation (Cascade, 2022). He is a frequent contributor to the ACCS journal Classis, a Fellow at the Catechesis Institute, and Fellow of Pedagogy and Church History at the Beza Institute for Reformed Classical Education. In addition to his Lower School responsibilities, he also teaches Historical Theology in the Upper School. Kyle lives in Powder Springs with his wife, Karisa, and their three children, Aliya, Asher, and Judah. The Hughes family worships at Christ the King Anglican, where Kyle serves on the clergy team and as director of catechesis. His hobbies include tennis, travel, miniature painting, and a fluffy dog named Luna.

James Mastrianna

Lower School Dean of Students

Born and raised in sunny Southern California, James Mastrianna moved to Kennesaw from Santa Cruz, California. He has been blessed with a beautiful wife, and they have four wild and sweet children. He has spent many years in educational and ministerial positions, including as youth pastor and intern program director in the local church. Throughout his tenure, he's had the privilege of educating, discipling, and caring for many families and students. He has a B.A in History and a minor in Economics from Penn State University and a M.A in Theological Studies from Westminster Theological Seminary. James is a life-long learner at heart, with particular interest in historical studies, theology, church history, philosophy, and all things sports, especially the Dodgers. His philosophy of classical education stems from a focus on discipleship pertaining to the issues of the heart. His goal is that discipleship is more than modified behavior, and through instruction, discipline, and admonishment, he aims to cultivate virtue and godliness amidst difficult issues.

Melissa Hobson

Upper School Dean of School Life

Melissa Hobson earned her B.A. in Communication Studies from Mississippi State University in Starkville, MS and her MA in Communication and Culture from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. Daughter Avery and son Liam love being part of the Stonehaven Upper School. David and Melissa worship at Trinity Anglican. When she isn't teaching or deaning, you can find her downloading podcasts, streaming true crime docs, or fangirling her own kids in soccer and drama.

Kathryn Jackson

Upper School Dean of Academics

Kathryn Jackson earned her B.S. in Biochemistry and B.Ed. in Secondary Science Education from the University of Georgia. Go DAWGS! She spent several years teaching at the secondary level and has also worked in the corporate world in technology and design. She has been a part of the Stonehaven community for several years, first as a parent in 2009, and then as a teacher beginning in 2014. She and Eric have three children: Canon, Anne, and Kate. Kathryn attends Cumberland Community Church with her family where she has served in various teaching roles. Kathryn enjoys all things academia, owns too many books, loves visiting college campuses, and drinks too much coffee.

Tyler Proffitt

Upper School Dean of Students

Tyler Proffitt graduated with his B.A. in History from the University of Georgia before going to the University of Mississippi for graduate school, where he studied politics in the American South and the role of religion in the civil rights movement. He began teaching History at Stonehaven in 2014 and serves as the Upper School Dean of Students. He also coaches Stonehaven's track and field team and loves seeing students cultivate a love for creation through the Pathfinders program. During the summer, you can find Tyler working as a program director at a summer camp in northeastern Alabama and exploring America's open roads. He worships at Church of the Incarnation in Atlanta and enjoys spending time outdoors with friends, reading, and attempting to teach himself to play piano.

Melissa Dickinson

Director of Development

Melissa Dickinson graduated from the University of Florida with a Bachelor's in Telecommunication-News and a Master's in Management. Melissa joined the Stonehaven staff in 2019. Melissa and her husband, Rhett, have been married since 2009 and have four children. They are members of ChristChurch Presbyterian in Atlanta, where you might find her teaching elementary Sunday school, helping with nursery check-in, or preparing communion trays.

Jill Huggins

Financial Manager

Jill grew up in West Cobb and graduated from Mercer University with a B.A. in Mathematics. In the years following, she worked in sales at BellSouth (remember that?) while earning an MBA from Kennesaw State University. Having taught Sunday school and sung in the choir at Marietta First Baptist since the last millennium and tutored math for years, she absolutely loves being a part of an organization that cultivates truth, goodness, and beauty in the hearts of our students. After joining the Stonehaven family in 2014 as a parent, Jill feels privileged to have served Stonehaven as an employee since 2021. She lives with her husband Stuart and energetic sons, Clint and Gary. In her spare time, she enjoys reading classic books that she should have read a long time ago.

Jungrok King

Director of Operations

Jungrok is a Korean TCK (Third Culture Kid) from Hong Kong and has moved around the world, most recently from Weihai, China to Atlanta in 2020. She received her B.S. in International Politics from Georgetown University, her teaching certification from The University of Hong Kong, and her M.S in Educational Leadership and Management from The University of London, Institute of Education. Prior to joining Stonehaven, Jungrok worked at a college admissions-related tech company in operations and business development. She also previously worked as an admissions officer at MIT's undergraduate admissions office and taught high school history and government for several years at an international school in China. She is married to Jon and they have three children. Jungrok and her family worship at Smyrna Presbyterian Church. Jungrok is an avid soccer fan (only) every four years during the World Cup, she enjoys cooking different cuisines for dinner and going for walks with her family and dog, Peaches.

Hannah Miley

Director of Admissions & Enrollment

Hannah Miley earned her B.B.A. in Management Information Systems from the University of Georgia. She discovered her interest in computers and in her future husband, Tony, during a summer job at Chick-fil-A, Inc. After graduation from UGA, she worked in technology consulting in Atlanta for eight years. Hannah joined the staff at Stonehaven in 2013 when her son Hudson started Pre-K and daughter Raegan started 1st grade. She was drawn to the Christ-like and joyful culture of Stonehaven and still loves welcoming every person who walks through its doors. Hannah and her family attend The Church of the Apostles and enjoy traveling and playing tennis together.
